We made a huge breakthrough this weekend.
For a while now I've been thinking we should get rid of Micah's paci's.
I mean he is two years old and I should have to be searching for
a paci all the time right??
I was really hoping that this would happen more on its own, but instead the longer
we waited the more hooked Micah got! So we figured the time had
come and we better just take it away all together because the whole only give it to him
during naps and night time wasn't working.
I told Matt we had to do it on a weekend because I couldn't handle it alone.
So on Friday night we hid that pacis.. We did his normal routine
and Micah was WIRED! ha he was not acting tired at all so we through a little
curious george in there (which would rarely ever happen at bed time) to
get him to calm down.
We gave him his bear and his blanky, laid him down and prepared ourselves for the
fit of a lifetime.... and he never even cried! He went to sleep super sweet.
I figured it couldn't be that easy. And sure enough, at about 4 that morning I hear the
sweetest little voice.. Mama? Maaaaammmmaaaa??
So I go in and he says paci? So I took him out and showed him the drawer
where the pacis usually are and told him that they were all gone.
We had to stare at the drawer for a while, but he kinda got the idea.
After that I tried to distract him slash put him back to bed, but it never happened.
So by the time morning rolled around we were both exhausted and
thats when the fits really started. He was super tired and I'm not sure he knew
how to calm down or go to sleep without his paci.
It was ugly that morning so we packed up and went on a car ride.
We got some breakfast and ended up hitting some yard sales and it was fun.
Then Micah fell asleep in the car and so we went home to try and put
him in his crib, but he woke up.
We lounged around that afternoon until I thought he was ready for a nap.
I put him in his crib and he was just in there playing and acting not
tired at all and super sweet so I got him up and he played for
another hour or so and then I knew he REALLY needed a nap so I
laid him down and he cried and cried, but I figured it was the only way for
him to learn that he CAN fall asleep without a paci.
That nap was the worst crying he ever had to do. Again that night he went to sleep with
no problem at all! On Sunday he cried a little bit at nap time, but it was way
way better then the day before. Sometimes when he wakes up from his nap he will
ask for a paci, but besides him doing that like once he hasn't even asked for it.
It's Tuesday now and he has been sleeping and taking naps just like normal!
Yay!!! I think that battle is over and what a relief.
It was actually a lot easier then I thought it would be and I'm glad
we finally just did it cause now I don't have hear him crying for his paci all day!
Or stress about loosing them haha
Good job Mikes, you won!! :)
